These pictures were taken August 5 in Farmer
Phil's cow pasture. |

This is one cool looking clover! |

Boraxweed
Nitrophila occidentalis |

aka Western Miterwort, Western
Nitrophila, Alkali Pink, Western borax-weed |

The first seven photographs were taken July 15 in the alkali
flats that used to be Spring Lake. |

These are quite tiny - no more than a couple inches tall with an occasional stand that
gets leggier and stands about five inches tall. |

The flowers are so small you almost blink thinking you're seeing things. A lovely purple! |

I wonder if the leggier plants are indicative of male and female plants? |

This and the next three pictures were taken September 5. |

It was quite amazing when I saw the small greasebush growing among these plants. The
leaves are exactly the same. The only way I could tell the difference was from the stems. |
