Hooker's Evening Primrose
Oenothera elata hookeri
also oenothera elata subsp. hookeri, oenothera hookeri, oenothera hookeri subsp. hookeri
Interesting Info
Blooms in early to mid-July.
I found a few plants behind Walmart and alongside Highway 97 at the Joe Wright Road intersection.
The rest of the plants I've seen are in close proximity to water in the ditches alongside Highway 97.
I've found these where the soil was boggy and loamy and where the soil was dry and hard packed.
.
This and the next three pictures were taken August 1. The flowers have been in bloom for the last four or five weeks.
.
This and the next seven pictures are October foliage.
It looks like this will make an excellent paper. These appear to be perennials.
The plants die back and grow back from the root each spring, so the plants can be harvested freely after going to seed.
