Found on Klamath Reserve in damp, rich soil between a canal and a waterway.

The only time I can find these is when they're in full bloom.

The seed pods are well developed, some spikes are spent while others are midway thru blooming.

Found in an empty, undeveloped lot on hospital hill.

This picture and the next were taken September 5. This is a very dry location behind the 76 Station on East Main with no water nearby.

I snapped and peeled the main stem on one of the plants and it definitely looks like good fiber for papermaking. Definitely need a beater or stamper as it is very woody.
I also took a close look at the seed pods that had already dispersed the seed. They are woody also and would make lovely inclusions.
