Western wheatgrass
Pascopyrum smithii

aka Bluestem, bluejoint, western couchgrass, Colorado bluestem, Smith bluestem, Wyoming wheatgrass
Found in my yard. 3% grade, dry, well drained arid, alkaline soil, full sun.
Leaves are about 4 feet high with seed heads about 5 feet.
Native perennial.
Not invasive. In fact, the patch in our yard hasn't grown any larger at all!

Found in dry alkaline soil, arid area surrounded by volcanic rock in full sun along Bear Valley Road on the dike.
Companion plants: Blazing Star, Gray Rabbitbrush, Blue Mountain Buckwheat
Regel's mountain penstemon
Penstemon roezlii
aka Roezl's Penstemon
Found tooth by jowl with the Royal Beardtongue.
This penstemon was found alongside Royal Beardtongue.
