Grey-leaf Desert Parsley
Lomatium macrocarpum |

aka Biscuit Root |

Perennial herb. |

This is all over the place in our canyon. |

The soil is alkaline, was a soggy area where water pooled when it rained, but
quickly became arid. |

Companion plant: Depressed fiddleleaf, Rough eyelash, Flatpod. |

The first sprouts appeared in late February, true leaves appear about a month
later. |

The plant matures quickly after true leaves appear and sets first blooms by the
first week in April. |

This one blooms all the way through May. |

By August 23 the plants have died back and have been just hanging onto their
seed waiting for seed dispersal. |
 |

This is the plant after overwintering. This and the next photo were taken in early
February. |
 |

This and the next fout pictures were taken May 29. |

Look carefully and you can see some of the wee beginnibgs of this year's plants.
. |

Seems to me the flower stalks will make a decent fiber for paper. |
