Common Mallow
Malva neglecta
aka Wild Geranium, Roundleaf Mallow, buttonweed, cheeseplant, cheeseweed, Dwarf mallow, Guimauve, Kass Pappeln, Khubbaizah, Klein Kaasjeskruid, Penjer
Edible
These little darlings can be found all over the Klamath Basin.
These pictures were taken in July. These guys can bloom clear up to frost and, if next to the house, can stay green through the winter.
The soil in the Klamath Basin is mostly alkaline.
.
Common Silverweed
Potentilla anserina
aka Silverweed, Silverweed Cinquefoil
The soil is wet and loamy under the detritus so it has dry ankles and wet feet. I found them in the canal overflow on Highway 97 and took these pictures mid-July.
Medicinal
Companion plants: Bedstraw, cattail.
The flowers are about the size of a quarter.
This was just too lovely not to photograph. I wonder why this one perished while the one next to it thrived. Bugs, I suppose...
