This little plant is absolutely delicious.

It has a fresh taste and is a wonderful addition to any salad.

It first appears in late February and seems to be a perennial, as it pops up in the same place each year.

I found these on our property and the soil is well drained, alkaline and on a 3% grade.

The plants grow only in the shaded areas under our junipers and on the eastern side to hide from the afternoon sun.

When they first appear, the soil is a bit boggy and in areas that retain the snowmelt giving the plants "wet feet and dry ankles."

The blooms show up in late February, early March.

In our yard, the flowers stay demure and are wee little things never quite peeking out for a full blooming.

Without watering, the plants start to die back in late May.
