Recently I have had a fascination with petroglyphs, pictographs and geoglyphs. When the swap rules came out and said anything of the earth, I figured it was time to get serious about making copies of ancient man's rock art.
I picked up the container of sand we use on the front porch every winter and dabbed up a bunch of it with some conditioned translucent Sculpey III. I kept dabbing the sand and mixing until the clay was saturated and fairly stiff.
Next I broke the clay up into five sections, each about the size of the old American silver dollar coin. I randomly smashed them onto a ceramic tile creating an uneven surface as if it were a real rock.
I then carved with a needle tool the outlines of the petroglyphs I gleaned from around the world on the internet. These are real petroglyphs from various locations around the world that I gleaned from the internet!! After carving them, I painted the imprints with copper Fimo Pulver and coated that with a very thin layer of Transparent Liquid Sculpey.
I baked the stones on the ceramic tile for 20 minutes at 275 degrees fahrenheidt (135 celcius) and then dropped them immediately into iced water to cool. To finish them, I glued a pin onto the back with E6000.
Voila - wearable ancient art.
